Message from the Assistant to the Principal - Curriculum
Mr Laurie Fitzpatrick
At Mater Dei we offer a variety of subjects which cater for students with different interests and needs.
In Years 7-10, students follow a pattern of study that is mandated by the NSW Board of Studies. In Stage 4 (Years 7 & 8) students are exposed to a broad range of subjects. In Stage 5 (Years 9 and 10) students are able to choose two elective subjects. A wide range of electives are offered.
In NSW, students in Year 11 and 12 (Stage 6) undertake a pattern of study with the intention to gain a Higher School Certificate. Subjects are chosen according to the guidelines set out by the NSW Board of Studies.
In Year 10, students undergo a comprehensive process to choose their course in Stage 6. The subject selection process culminates in Term 3 with an individual interview with parents and the student to select a pattern of study that best serves the needs, interests and aspirations of the student.
The variety of subjects offered changes from year to year in response to the interests and needs of students.
Our school has trade training facilities for Metals and Hospitality and we offer a range of vocational education courses.
We facilitate access for students who need to work with other providers and employers for specialist vocational courses/programs.
Our curriculum offerings continually evolve and we strive to respond and meet the needs of students.
