Music Program

Performance Music Program

The Mater Dei Catholic College Instrumental Music program is a co-curricular activity that encourages participation in music performance and promotes self-confidence and commitment. The Program offers students instrumental lessons conducted by qualified teachers from the Riverina Conservatorium of Music and other independent teachers from around the Wagga area. Lessons are available on a variety of instruments including flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone, violin, viola, cello, double bass, percussion and voice. Lessons are conducted during the school day. For some instruments, students may either study  individually or in small group lessons. The lessons are supported with opportunities for performance within the membership of a wide range of music groups. It is expected that students who participate in this program make themselves available for membership of one or more of the College ensembles.

Music Performance Groups

Once students have attained a competent level of performance on their chosen instrument, they will be invited to join one of the College bands, ensembles or vocal groups. Those groups include: Stage Band, Concert Band and Mater Dei Choir. Students who participate in College music groups are encouraged to develop skills in participation, teamwork, fine motor manipulations and increased levels of concentration. Building a sense of community and skills in teamwork are integral to this Program’s aims.

Music groups perform regularly at events including College Assemblies and Liturgies, the Wagga Eisteddfod and the biennial College Musical.
